Storyhouse Kommetjie
After years of working in the community - as a church minister in three congregations, and as a teacher-lecturer and psychologist, we would love to integrate our skills by offering retreats. Our main focus will be on psychological well-being, relationships; creativity; giftedness; fortigenesis; salutogenesis; trauma - including childhood trauma; to name but a few. The retreats will be small and intimate, with a maximum of 9-10 people. Included in the tariff, are the accommodation and typical South African meals and snacks.
BLOG 1. STORYHOUSE KOMMETJIE RETREATS ON PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING.
-
Do you sometimes feel that your life is meaningless?
-
Have you lately experienced stressful life events (life traumas; divorce; loss of employment; etc), with feelings that you can’t cope or manage the stress?
-
Do you sometimes experience anxiety, depression, burnout or do you have somatic complaints?
-
Do you still feel unhappy despite having no material needs?
-
Do you feel that you have a dignified place in society?
-
Do you experience social interdependence?
-
Do you feel that you have enough social support at work?
-
Are you satisfied with your lifestyle: are your work, recreation and leisure integrated?
-
Do you experience love in your life, especial reciprocated love?
-
Do you assume responsibility for your success - and for your failures?
-
Have you been maltreated during childhood? Do you still suffer from those experiences?
-
Do you sometimes feel that you don’t have the psychological strength, optimism, hardiness, resilience or mastery to face the challenges of your life?
These are a few questions which you may have asked yourself – questions which you may have wished you could have answered in a positive manner? Do not despair! Perhaps a “Storyhouse Kommetjie Retreat” can assist you with knowledge and insights to become an active agent in the process of healing, and/or to get to a large extent, control of your own destiny.
The owners of Storyhouse, Charl and Antoinette, are offering the “Storyhouse Kommetjie Retreat” at their guesthouse in Kommetjie. Do you know where Kommetjie is? Kommetjie is an unspoilt village on the South Peninsula of South Africa, about halfway between Cape Town and Cape Point.
The “Storyhouse Kommetjie Retreat” is based on Antoinette’s master’s degree, “An Analysis of Psychological well-being from an Educational Psychological Perspective” (Unisa; 2008).
It is aimed at a person who wants to know more about aspects of psychological wellness:
-
a person who is looking for answers to the introductory questions above
-
a person who wants to get to know him- or herself better, and asks the question, “Who am I?”
-
a person who wants to know more about the ego, self, self-talk; self-concept; strengths and weaknesses; etc.
-
a person who just needs a break, and perhaps discover new meaning in life?
We’re planning these retreats as holistic experiences. On top of some enriching themes that will be discussed, the accommodation, meals and snacks are included. We love to cook, and we plan traditional South African dishes, with maybe a little influence from Africa, Malaysia, France and Italy? We plan these Retreats for the green season in the Western Cape when when it’s not so hot, and the fynbos and aloes are a sight to be seen. Can you imagine anything nicer during the milder autumn and winter, than a delicious home-cooked meal next to the Aga stove? [Antoinette was the lucky person who enherited her grandma Netta's Aga!].
We feel extremely privileged to live in Kommetjie and to offer these “Storyhouse Kommetjie Retreats” in our beautiful and peaceful village. An added bonus is that Storyhouse is walking distance to Long Beach which is just down the street! For some years we’ve been accommodating guests in our guesthouse, but we feel we could also share some of the richness of our academic studies and life experiences with a wider audience. We’re also looking forward to your contributions!
During the Retreat there will be time for walking or jogging on the white, sandy beach while experiencing the most beautiful views towards Chapmans Peak and Hout Bay in the distance. The brave ones can always have a quick dip in the aquamarine ocean! A boardwalk leads you towards Slangkop Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in South Africa.
Please note, the “Storyhouse Kommetjie Retreat” is not aimed at persons dependent on alcohol, drugs or any substance. We are not qualified to assist with these. Please contact specific institutions which offer assistance.
The “Storyhouse Kommetjie Retreat” do not include spa treatments or yoga sessions – perhaps in future?
Single persons, couples, and/or a group of friends. All should be above 18 years old.
You’re welcome to contact us via WhatsApp/email for more information. Please include your email address.
Warm regards.
